I'm not sure where I'm going to go with this Blog. I'm starting it as a way to just share things on my mind, mostly about cycling, beer, society, etc, and to hopefully learn something. I encourage any readers to comment, but know that I really mean no harm so please no hateful comments. Here we go! I spend quite a bit of time on my bike, cruising the streets around my neighborhood and maybe yours! I think that you can get a real wake up call about life and the energy around you when your on a bike, or walking. You notice how much more there is to life when your outside of your car or house. I feel sorry for the people I pass sitting in cars, locked inside with the artificial air, noisy radio chatter, and the financial burden. I see quite a few of them looking at me with a longing look on their faces to join me and have some fun. So why don' they? Why don't I see more people riding around having fun? Is it because their ego won't let them? Are they too proud of the gleaming piece of shit that some car dealer swindled them into buying so that they can protray the image of "Success"? While we are on that topic, what defines someone as a "Success"? Is it the amount of money they have, the possessions they own, the career they have attained? To me, the measure of success is how much time you spend enjoying your life? I have digressed. Maybe the people are just scared that they will get hurt? Or, they feel that they are not in good enough shape to pedal a bike everywhere? Or, like most people, they have kids, practices, groceries, errands, demanding lifestyles that just don't enable them to ride bikes. Any which reason is their own right, I try to not judge the people in cars, I just wish they would give me some room to ride. I drive a car quite a bit myself, it's even a gas guzzling SUV. Why do I drive? Mostly because I have to pick up my child each day after work and my route home isn't the most bicycle friendly and I don't trust my childs safety to the yahoo in the Dodge truck who is texting his parole officer. I envy the people who live in cities where bicycles are an acceptable mode of transportation and the transportation system supports them. I imagine that it's a much more enjoyable ride when you meet other people at intersections and they smile and wave and move on, not like here where at intersections there is just people locked in there cars, looking at you like your an alien. I'm just a human being! Don't be such a prude, I have a child, a wife, a dog, a cat, bills, and probably most of the same problems you do, I'm not trying to be a self righteous individual, I'm just on a bike! I hope that the Kansas City area will someday create a transportation system that supports the bike culture! Have a great Wednesday anyone who reads this and remember. Relax.
If you leave it better than you found it then you were successful.
